Love and Kindness is Essential
A note on kindness:
Kindness is rooted in love. It’s rooted in an empathetic way to live. It comes from a state of acknowledgment of another being and seeing them as one deserving of dignity and respect. It is rooted in seeing that we are all different but yet all the same. Our differences can be physical, developmental, psychological, environmental, economic, religious... really our differences are endless. But if we focus on the differences, we can see that it is what makes this beautiful planet and our world truly remarkable. It is what allows me to learn and see things differently. To expand my pallet and appreciate that my view, my way, my sense is not the only one. Focusing on what connects us all together, what makes us all one, regardless of all the million differences we have... that is the root. Love is the root.
When we come from a place of love, we allow for beautiful things to blossom. When we come from a place of fear, anger and hate, we block all possibility and destroy any sense of hope. To quote R.J. Palacio, “I know I can’t change the way I look. But maybe, just maybe... people can change the way they see. If they do, they’ll see that I’m a wonder. And they’ll see that they’re wonders, too. We’re all wonders. Look with kindness, and you will always find wonder.” It’s all about perspective and how we CHOOSE to see, how we CHOOSE to treat others and how we CHOOSE to teach our children to see and treat others. Each and every being is deserving of respect and kindness.
So, in a world where you can be anything at all... why choose to be anything but kind? Kindness is teaching ourselves and our children to value love over hate, human over race, ability, religion, clothing or anything else you can identify as “different”. And to recognize that it is our differences which give us opportunities to grow. It is our connectedness, our ability to love and be kind that takes the opportunities and turns them into real growth. It is through love and kindness that beauty and magic are able to blossom.
